Uniting in Advocacy On Behalf of Children With Mental Health Special Needs

  • One in five families is affected by serious emotional disturbance in their lifetimes.

  • One of seven children under 10 suffers from a mental disorder

  • Childhood onset of brain disorders affect approximately 14 million American children.

  • One-fifth of the 7.5 million children suffering from severe mental health disabilities receives treatment.

  • Suicide is the third leading cause of death of teens between 15 and 19.

  • Suicide is the sixth leading cause of death in children under 15.

  • Ninety percent of the children and teens who commit suicide have a mental disorder.

  • Treatment success rates for mental disorders range from 60-80 percent, while the range is only 41-52 percent for heart disease.
